PROJECT CITY

Hibernation is definitely not in the vocabulary at Hurstbourne Country Club; we have been extremely busy so far this winter working on various jobs and projects.
As most of you are aware, the front drive has been closed since the first of the month. This has allowed our crew, Bob Ray Tree Company and Carl Ray Landscape Nursery to begin and finish (minus two trees) Phase I of our Tree Plan. You will notice as you work your way along the front drive that dead and dying trees have been removed and their stumps ground, new healthy trees (44) have been planted and existing healthy mature trees have been pruned and limbed up. The planting of three new trees on the dogleg of #5 and #7 and new trees on the dogleg of #9 has also been completed. By taking advantage of the ground being frozen, we were able to complete this project with little disruption to the golf course. Also, the crew of the Golf Course Operations Department must be recognized for the enormous effort put forth during these frigid temperatures.
Some of the other areas that have been addressed include but are not limited to the following:
  • limbing up trees on the entire golf course
  • cleaning the hillside along #16 from bridge to green
  • repairing and retrofitting irrigation system
  • refurbishing all course accessories
  • cleaning and organizing maintenance shop and administrative offices
  • preforming preventative maintenance on all equipment including grinding reels
  • assisting with clubhouse clean up and organization

We are also in the process of replacing approximately 200 feet of collapsed and broken drainage pipe that runs from the Spring House to the creek. This drainage pipe is fifty plus years old and runs between #10 tee and the creek. The Spring House drainage project is being funded through the generosity of The Hurstbourne Foundation which is a non-profit entity. Please refer any questions regarding the Foundation to Mr. Ed Wilson.
